KPFF provided structural engineering services for a two-story addition with a full basement at the University of Louisville’s Ekstrom Library. The 2,000 SF structure features elevated concrete slabs formed over steel decking and supported by conventional steel framing, structurally tied into the existing library. The basement is designated for archived book storage, while the above-ground levels serve as open study spaces.
The exterior envelope includes architectural glazing and cold-formed steel wall panel systems. KPFF reviewed the original structural documents and confirmed the feasibility of connecting the new structure to the existing building.
