Oregon Chip Terminals

KPFF is actively working with Oregon Chip Terminal on their six-acre site in Coos Bay, Oregon. The site serves as a wood chip bulk handling facility, receiving chips by truck, and off-loading them with large conveyor belt and blower systems. Over 4 acres of the site contain chip stockpiles. KPFF conducted a structural & mechanical conditions assessment of the chip handling structures, the waterfront structures and mechanical conveyor systems. KPFF provided Oregon Chip with recommendations for the rehabilitation the existing bulkhead and retaining walls, loading tower support wharf, foundations for the conveyor towers, and large mooring dolphins. OCT has executed several of the rehabilitation projects and is working with KPFF to prioritize the most critical projects. As the site operations have expanded, KPFF has designed the foundations for several new conveyor towers ranging from 40 to 90 feet tall. KPFF is actively working with Oregon Chip to provide a modern data collection system to record wood chip data. KPFF is also working on a major rehabilitation project to reinforce OCT’s main loading tower and loading boom.
