KPFF provided structural engineering associated with the development of park buildings as part of the Beacon Park located at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California. The project was delivered in a Design-Build format. The project includes a Welcome Center/Community Building, a Bike Barn, a Pool Pavilion and Pool Equipment Building as well as a Storage Building. In addition to the building structures, an iconic elevated steel platform structure was constructed amongst several heritage Jacaranda trees. The structure includes a pod shaped roof covering constructed of curved steel pipe and covered with timber lath. Other site elements required structural design and detailing include a sports court with a large shade structure.
