KPFF is supporting the design of a new shiploader crane that is being retrofitted to fit onto an existing rail mounted gantry crane. The shiploader will be used at the Port of Grays Harbor to load bulk grain export product onto approximately 60 vessels per year. KPFF’s survey crew took detailed field measurements of the existing gantry crane in order to ensure that the new Apex Structure and Loading Boom would fit onto the existing gantry crane. KPFF is designing the new Apex Structure and Loading Boom to be steel trussed elements with metal cladding to keep dust generation to a minimum. KPFF’s Mechanical Team is supporting this project as well by designing a new winching system and new cables, sheaves and stay rods.
