This facility adds science space to a row of research buildings along Seattle’s Lake Union Fairview Avenue corridor. Friendly to South Lake Union’s science core and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center it will feature connectivity to the University of Washington when the adjacent streetcar line extension is completed.
A dramatic grade change of almost 20′ between Fairview and Eastlake Avenues crates stunning views and creates space for a public plaza which also provides a public pathway from the upper hillside down to the lake. A portion of the foundation was located in the lake necessitating an innovative foundation and shoring design.
