Transforming Education - One Student at a Time

The Seattle office has a new high school intern from the Big Picture School in Bellevue, WA. In partnership with the nationally recognized Big Picture School Learning Network, there are five guiding principles which provide the schools foundation and framework: personalization, adult world connection, common intellectual mission, supportive partnerships, and shared leadership and responsibility. The school is uniquely structured to educate, support, and guide students from middle school through high school graduation, building bridges across the grades that lead to college success. Yonatan Baraz (Yoni) has attended Big Picture since its’ inception,  and aspires to be a Structural Engineer after his college graduation. In the short time that he has been here at KPFF Special Projects, Yoni feels that his internship has confirmed his career path and choice of occupation. He has teamed with Scott Stainer to study elements of Civil Engineering and verify civil quantity take-offs for Pier 4 at the Port of Tacoma, and has also learned about stormwater runoff modeling. He was also partnered with Jim Hingtgen to learn about Structural Engineering and to provide assistance in the design of water tanks and their foundations.
