KPFF provided structural engineering services for the new South Meridian YMCA over three phases: the main YMCA gym, a weight/play area expansion, and an aquatic center.
The first phase of the South Meridian YMCA included the entry facility, locker rooms, cardio equipment and basketball courts. KPFF provided engineering for 2 stories of elevated structure utilizing conventional foundations, CMU shear walls, concrete filled metal decks and metal roof decks.
After phase 1 was complete, KPFF provided structural engineering services for the weight/play expansion. This expansion included a single-story structure utilizing conventional foundations, CMU shear walls and concrete filled metal decks and metal roof decks. The program provided a new weight room, a kids play area, and future expansion capabilities.
Finally, KPFF provided structural engineering services for a new 22,000 square foot, $15 million project providing Meridian, Idaho with its first indoor aquatic center. The structure utilizes high-efficiency Hi-R insulated masonry shear walls located on conventional strip footings. Large volume windows provide ample natural light into the areas. The aquatics center consists of a lap pool, recreation/family pool, outdoor/indoor waterslide, lazy river, a kid’s pool, and an outdoor splash pad. Due to the project’s proximity to the existing YMCA building, innovative design and construction sequencing was utilized to maximize interior pool space.
