Through a public-private partnership, the historic Averyl Tiner Building in Downtown Boise was renovated to create a boutique hotel and two restaurants. The goal was to modernize the facility while preserving its historic charm. The original building was over 100 years old; it was opened in 1910 as a theater and hotel, and later housed a department store, nightclub, and (legend has it) underground boxing matches. Most of the upper-floor rooms sat vacant for 60 years before the recent renovation. KPFF strengthened the historic building and provided new safety elements, including a stair tower for egress. Many challenges were discovered during demolition, but the project was successfully completed and opened for business in June 2023.
