Providence Saint John’s Health Center

The new replacement facility for Saint John’s Health Center includes a 5-story Inpatient Facility, 4-story Outpatient/Diagnostic and Treatment Facility, free-standing central plant and 300-car parking structure. The project was constructed on a constrained urban site and was phased in order to accommodate ongoing operations in the existing facility, and to allow for successive steps of new construction and existing facility demolition. The new Inpatient and Outpatient/Diagnostic and Treatment Facilities were designed with a base isolation system in order to satisfy the post-earthquake operational goal of complete continuity of operations. KPFF also provided structural engineering services related to the design of the excavation shoring system for the project, the design of pedestrian bridges, and consulting services relating to the coordination of the demolition of the existing buildings on the Saint John’s Health Center campus.
