Port of Long Beach
KPFF served as the prime design consultant to perform site investigations for geotechnical and environmental sediment characterization, design, and environmental permitting for the Port’s capital dredging project to improve navigation for larger vessels and to improve navigation safety. The work consisted of dredging approximately 1 million cubic yards of sediments to a depth of (-)55 for beneficial reuse at a confined disposal site within the Harbor District that will receive material from multiple dredge sources. KPFF coordinated the work with other design teams working with the Port, Harbor Pilots, and other stakeholders to prioritize the dredge footprint to optimize navigation improvements to and within the West Basin and meet the needs of the disposal site. KPFF managed a team to provide civil, environmental, and geotechnical engineering, hydrographic surveys, diving services, cost estimating, constructibility reviews, and scheduling.
