Structural Engineering
Civic, Mass Timber
KPFF provided structural engineering services for a new 16,000 sf, single-story library. The clean use of Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) panels sets the Bown Crossing branch apart from any other Boise Municipal Library branch. Acting as a community center, the structure houses 13,000 sf of public space including a reading room with fireplace, study rooms, audio-visual rooms, and a children’s area. There are 28 computers and 40,000 lending items available for public use. The project was the first in Idaho to achieve LEED v.4 NC Silver certification through the use of recycled and local materials, sustainable features for efficient use of energy and water, and a glass curtain wall to maximize daylighting.
