The Des Moines Heritage Trust, a nonprofit organization, enlisted the services KPFF/Saul Engineering, as part of a multidisciplinary team, for the renovation, restoration, and expansion of its headquarters. The new 9,100SF addition, with its voluminous mass timber framing, curtainwall, and masonry form, offers a distinct design counterpoint to the adjoining original 1909 East Des Moines Union Depot building. A 7,500SF function hall with seating for up to 400 guests is the show-stopping hallmark of the expansion. The project was recognized by AIA Iowa with multiple awards in 2021.
