KPFF provided structural engineering for a landmark building on the campus of Boise State University. The Center for the Visual Arts is a 97,600-sf building with a five-story studio and two-story gallery, connected by a connecting lobby that is walled with floor-to-ceiling windows. The studio space is filled with state-of-the-art equipment, classrooms, critique spaces, administrative offices, and public exhibit galleries. To create a unique and dynamic exterior, the gallery space was covered in blue stainless steel. Its appearance varies from day-to-day based on sunlight and cloud cover. The university hopes that this building will serve as a gateway to campus for the public, putting the arts on display for all.
