KPFF provided structural engineering services for the seismic strengthening and structural renovation of this historic 1927 warehouse into an office complex with internal parking. The 180,000-sf, five-story building is now home to the US headquarters of Vestas Wind Systems.

Seismic retrofit work consisted of providing new concrete shear walls, new mat foundations, and new collectors at the diaphragms. A one-story penthouse was added to the roof along with an ecoroof, an outdoor gathering space, and a 107 kW rooftop-mounted photovoltaic array – one of the largest in downtown Portland. A large opening was provided at the roof through the third floor in the center of the building to create a grand atrium.
