KPFF provided structural engineering services for a new 380,000sf replacement hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri. The new hospital provides 160 private patient rooms with ample space for patients, families, visitors and caregivers.
Separate covered entrances and convenient parking allow easy access to the main hospital lobby, outpatient services and the emergency department. Among the services offered in the new facility are diagnostic imaging, radiology, oncology, outpatient surgery, cardiopulmonary services, and critical care. Amenities include a kitchen and cafeteria for patients and visitors, along with an adjacent medical office building. Designed to accommodate future horizontal expansion, the project was completed at a cost of $200 million.
With a foundation of spread footings over bedrock, the building is framed using structural steel construction, with reinforced concrete shearwalls to resist lateral loads from wind and earthquakes.
