Regional Laboratory analyzes and provides results for both anatomic and clinical pathology tests for nearly 1,500 providers. In addition to more than 80 laboratorians and staff, this location is also home to the Medical Group Pathology medical services. This includes 15 pathologists who support the diagnoses of more than 150,000 member cases annually.

KPFF is providing structural engineering services for this new, $38 million, two-story, 33,000 SF laboratory expansion which includes a 5,000 SF penthouse. This framed building will be linked to their existing laboratory by a 1,400 SF connector. This new facility will house a new, state-of-the art expanded laboratory, a pathology department, conference center, administrative offices, and building support services.

The team’s goal has remained to provide a high-quality product for the fast pace design and to offer quick structural solutions to required updates initiated by contractor, owner or design team. As the project has a strict budget, KPFF suggested money-saving solutions for the screen wall and connector building structure and extended its services to site walls and Bioretention Systems. During the construction phase, KPFF engaged proactively to handle unforeseen conditions needed structural action/help.

KPFF also provided detailed finite element analysis for the structural capacity assessment where conventional design would slow down construction speed.
