KPFF is the civil and structural engineer for this 1.5 Million SF Replacement Hospital which is the hub for emergency medical services for Los Angeles County.  The design includes a base isolated diagnostic and treatment center that serves as the “lifeboat” to provide post-earthquake emergency services to the County. The new facility consists of four major buildings:  a 9-story 700,000-sf Inpatient Building, a 6‑story 450,000-sf Diagnostic and Treatment Building, an 8‑story 320,000-sf Outpatient Building, and a 30,000-sf below grade Central Plant. The outpatient building includes a sally port providing a secure holding area for transfer of prisoners. In addition to the design of the structural systems for this facility, KPFF provided structural engineering services for the design of all temporary shoring and underpinning.  The civil engineering element of the project included three separate packages: Site Demolition; Site Preparation Package, and full service site design for new facilities. The project was completed in August 2008 with a construction cost of $641 million.
