The new 15,000 square foot Culinary Instructional Building for Central Oregon Community College reflects the College’s partnership with the region’s leading dining establishments and their staff. KPFF provided structural engineering services for the new, single-story wood and steel structure. The space includes teaching kitchens and classrooms, as well as a public dining lab open to the community. The floors are exposed concrete. Many of the heavy timber and steel members are exposed throughout the interior and around the exterior of the building. Radiant slabs, large roof overhangs, and structurally insulated roof panels (SIPS) are utilized to enhance the thermal performance of the structure.
