Net-Zero Energy Building
KPFF provided structural engineering services for a new 5-story, 160,000sf mass timber office/classroom building with a partial day-lit basement. The lateral system for the building is the first of its kind utilizing CLT shear walls and Buckling-Restrained Braces (BRB) as ductile holddown elements. This was also the first building to showcase Katerra-supplied CLT panels produced by their factory in the Spokane Valley. The Catalyst building aims to be one of the largest zero-energy, certified by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI), buildings in North America.
