    Background

    Rick Johnson is a Principal at KPFF and manages the Seattle office’s civil/structural department. His more than 30 years of experience includes design of marine facilities for port and ferry terminal clients, design of bridges for public and private clients, and design of buildings for architects, owners, and developers.  Marine projects include container and bulk cargo wharfs, floating docks, ferry terminals, articulating gangways, berthing facilities, bulkheads, and seawalls.  Rick’s bridge experience includes the design, rehabilitation, and seismic upgrade of a wide range of vehicle and pedestrian structures.

    Project Experience

    One of three co-managers for the Washington Division, Rick has been with KPFF since 1982.  He is a recognized expert in the design of floating structures and is well-versed in the design of buildings and dynamic analysis.  He is also an expert in the area of seismic design of wharf structures and has presented several papers on the subject.
